This year, we’ve taken a bold step with our older son by joining a homeschool co-op. For those unfamiliar, a co-op is a collaborative setup where families come together to share teaching responsibilities, resources, and activities. It’s been a game-changer for us so far! Our son is thriving in this community-driven environment, where he gets to dive into subjects like science and history with other kids his age, all while I get to lean into my strengths (and, let’s be honest, avoid teaching the subjects I’m less confident in—like english grammar!).
The co-op has brought structure and socialization to his learning, which has been a beautiful balance to our at-home lessons. Watching him engage in group projects, debate ideas, and form new friendships has been so rewarding. It’s also given me a chance to connect with other parents who share similar values and goals for their kids’ education. I’m excited to see how this evolves over the year, and I’ll keep you posted on the highs, lows, and everything in between.
